Since I’m new to all this, I thought when better to start my blog than during Nanowrimo. Not only am I expecting myself to get my head round blog technology that is embarrassingly simple to everyone, it seems, but me, but I’m doing it during the National Novel Writing Month. (www.nanowrimo.org)
But. I’ve written my first 28,000 words of the 50,000 I plan to write over the 30 days in November… that means 1667 words a day. It took me a long time to work that out. Some wrimo’s, as we affectionately call ourselves, seem to have gone supersonic and are already streaking out of the higher echelons with well over the final total. I watch enviously from a distance and appease myself with the fact that I’m writing other stuff too, albeit with equally finger-grinding tardiness.
The original idea for my nanowrimo novel was a big brother style social commentary piece based in a department store. This went out of the literary window earlier this month after I decided it was far too complicated. To be replaced with a story about an agoraphobic dressmaker. It seemed apt and indeed I haven’t ventured out of the house much this month. Any good plot suggestions welcomed – but don’t expect royalties. If it does eventually get anywhere, I might be able to stretch to a couple of custard creams.
